Planning DepartmentAg DevelopmentFarmland Macedon has protected over 1900 acres since 1999. Town of Macedon residents set a goal of preserving 6200 acres of farmland during public participation in the comprehensive planning process from 1996-1999. Since adoption of the plan in 1999, the Town has submitted grant proposals on behalf of 9 farm owners who have expressed interest in preserving their land. The decision to fund any particular farm project is made by NYSDAM and USDA based on their ranking criteria for comparing farms statewide. To date, the Town has been awarded $ 3,241,077 in grant funds to fully preserve 1950 acres of farmland on 6 farms. Macedon has partnered with Genesee Land Trust on some of the grant proposals. Genesee Land Trust is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving valuable land resources, including farmland. The Town has also been awarded $653,498 of State money to partially fund protection of 662 acres of farmland on 3 other farms. This is a PowerPoint presentation that is used to explain the basics of a farmland protection grant application and how an easement works, based on experience in the Town of Macedon.
