Planning DepartmentGrant OpportunitiesNYS Environmental Protection Fund – Parks and Historic Preservation Grants Eligible Applicants: Counties, cities, towns, villages and non-profit organizations Purpose: Park development, historic preservation, acquisition and project planning Park Development projects: rehabilitation, preservation or restoration of lands or waters for park, recreation or conservation purposes, Including playgrounds, courts, rinks, community gardens, and facilities for swimming, boating, picnicking, hunting, fishing, camping and Other recreational activities Historic Preservation projects: rehabilitation, preservation or restoration of properties on the State or National Registers in accordance With the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Historic Preservation Acquisition projects: acquisition of permanent easement in or fee title to lands, waters or structures for park, recreation, conservation or recreation purposes, including open space, community gardens and properties on the State or National Register Project planning: project planning is eligible for separate funding to develop project specific planning documents such as designs/specifications for a park or historic structure Grant limit and Matching Requirements: maximum grant request is $400,000. A minimum of 50 percent match is required, but a higher match is recommended. Matching grants of up to 75 percent may be provided to applicants when the municipal poverty rate is greater than or equal to 10 percent of the population. A higher local match is still recommended.
