SODUS POINT PARK
OPENS JUNE 26

Summer is right around the corner and one of the most popular destinations to beat the heat and enjoy the beautiful weather is Sodus Point Park.

Tuesday, June 26, 2012 is the official start of the swimming season for Sodus Point Park! Red Cross-certified lifeguards will be manning the chairs at both the bayside and lakeside beaches between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., seven days a week. The Department of Aging and Youth is currently looking for qualified staff to work as lifeguards at Sodus Point Park. Interested Red Cross-certified lifeguards should call Sarah Williams at 946-5624.

Come join the fun and enjoy the beautiful waters of Sodus Point. Plan a day at the beach, but keep in mind beaches close to swimmers on Labor Day, September 3, 2012. Be sure to set a day aside and schedule some time to enjoy a long, sunny day at Sodus Point Park.

Supervised swimming is funded by Wayne County and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services

SODUS POINT HOSTS

TRIATHLON COMPETITORS

Athletes from throughout the region took part in this year’s annual Sodus Point Triathlon on August 14. Participants swam near the Sodus Point lighthouse, biked through the beautiful countryside, and ran alongside the lakeshore that is dotted with attractive colonial homes.

The race was limited to 200 registered competitors and consisted of a .5-mile swim, 13-mile bike course and a 5K run.

The triathlon is an inspiring event to watch. The participants, the dedicated volunteers, and the many local supporters and sponsors give this event a true feeling of community. Both volunteers and observers line the streets to support the participants all along the route.

Yellow Jacket Racing sponsors the race with the cooperation of the Town of Sodus, Village of Sodus Point, Sodus Point Police Department, Sodus Point Fire Department, Silver Waters Ambulance, United States Coast Guard, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, and Wayne County Department of Aging and Youth. The 40 race course volunteers are organized by the Neighborhood Association of Sodus Point (NASP). Yellow Jacket donates a portion of the proceeds to NASP to support ongoing community projects.
