TAXPAYERS GUIDE

Taxes due in Wayne County as follows.

The fiscal year for property taxes is January 1st to December 31st. County, Town and Special District taxes are included in one tax bill. This bill may include unpaid school and village taxes.

Wayne County has fifteen towns. The taxes are due on or about January 1st and are payable to the Town Tax Collector for the months of January, February, and March.

January without any penalty or interest.

February with a 1% interest added.

March with a 2% interest added.

April 1st taxes are returned to the County Treasurer's Office. Taxes are now payable to the Wayne County Treasurer, P.O. Box #8, Lyons, NY 14489.

A 5% penalty is assessed and 1% interest is added for each month the taxes are delinquent.

Installment Agreements available for qualifying taxpayers.

November the unpaid taxes are filed with the County Clerk and a filing fee of $5.00 is added to the tax.

January of the second year a Title Search is conducted and a fee of $105.00 is added to the tax. October of the second year of delinquency the taxes are advertised in local papers for three non-consecutive weeks. December is the tentative date for redeeming unpaid taxes before the County forecloses. April a Public Auction is held to sell all properties the County of Wayne has taken for unpaid taxes.  

Village taxes are collected from June 1st through October 31st payable to the Village Clerk. On November 1st the taxes are returned to the Wayne Count Treasurer's Office for collection with an additional fee of 5%.

All Village taxes remaining unpaid after the last business day of November , will be relevied onto the January Town and County Taxes with additional fees.

School Taxes are collected from September 1st through October 31st payable to the School district.
